Petaluma CA (PRWEB) October 28, 2011

An unwanted medical diagnosis or the limiting effects of aging can cause isolation and paralyzing fear and confusion. A daily practice of Qigong has helped millions lead their life to thrive through stress, aging and illness. The Chi Center retreats offer expert concentrated daily practice with the guidance of Qigong Master Mingtong Gu to cultivate calm, clarity and healthy purpose. The November retreats are ?Healing Intensive Retreats?, the most concentrated programs offered by The Chi Center for prevention and wellness recovery.

Studies show that it takes weeks to learn and retrain the brain and body into a new lifestyle habit. Chi Center retreats range from 5-14 days, to give the best concentrated time, place and focus to start a new future, by learning and deepening a Wisdom Healing Qigong practice. The Chi Center?s 100 Day Qigong program continues with a home practice program, weekly web sessions and a strong support community.

Master Gu studied directly with the founder of Wisdom Healing Qigong in China, which is the Qigong specialty that combines an ancient lineage of Qigong with modern medicine to focus precisely on prevention and/or recovery of medical conditions from disease, illness and aging. ?Too often in western medicine, the patient is overwhelmed, and forgets he/she has great capacity within to help their body heal and to support their medical care. The Qigong that I teach awakens this capacity to actively lead your life into health.” Mingtong Gu added “My students learn the skills and discipline to support your aging, your doctors and your dreams.?

Each day includes Qigong practice, teachings and meditations and healthy, wholesome meals. The movements and meditations are so gentle the practice can be done sitting, standing or lying down, so it is well-suited to many health conditions. ?When I am in retreat led by Mingtong Gu, everyday is more helpful to my learning and how I feel. He is a gifted teacher in translating these teachings into English for the western world.? said retreat student Denise Minter. Located just 25 minutes north of San Francisco, the 194 acre EarthRise at IONS Retreat Center is situated on a hilltop with sunrise and sunset views, laced with trails, bridges and benches.

About the Chi Center:

Master Mingtong Gu is an internationally recognized teacher of Wisdom Healing Qigong. Master Gu is the founder of the Chi Center, which offers regional events, classes, retreats and online programs for the public, professional wellness practitioners and Qigong teacher training. Promises Addiction Treatment Centers Expands Holistic & Integrative Therapies Program

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 08, 2011

Two years ago, Promises Treatment Centers was among the first to introduce a comprehensive holistic addiction treatment program to its clients. What began as a pain management unit for opiate withdrawal quickly expanded to include tuina, cupping and other Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) techniques to address all forms of emotional and physical pain during detox and early recovery.

As a result of its ongoing success, the TCM program at Promises is expanding to include movement therapy, using qigong and tai chi poses to improve function and reduce pain in different organ systems. Promises also recently launched a juicing program based on TCM nutrition principles. After analyzing a client?s constitution, licensed and certified acupuncturist Margot Chambers creates an individualized nutrition plan for each client.

?There is something about using clean medicine to get clean,? said Chambers. ?Clients come to Promises because they have been self-medicating with substances that harm them. The Traditional Chinese Medicine program empowers them to instead heal their bodies in a natural, holistic manner. It teaches clients an alternative way to deal with emotional and physical pain; it empowers them.?

At Promises, clients are offered three acupuncture treatments per week, with a complete diagnostic conducted at every visit. Chambers uses Traditional Chinese Medicine including movement therapy and Chinese nutrition to treat pain, insomnia, anxiety, digestive issues and the host of other complaints common in early recovery.

?Because people in early recovery are under acute stress, their bodies change rapidly,? said Chambers, who holds a master?s degree in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine and maintains a private practice in Los Angeles. ?Every time I see a client, I create a new treatment protocol designed to return balance to the body. The more balanced their bodies are, the less emotional and physical pain they feel.?

Clients at Promises have widely embraced Traditional Chinese Medicine. Although most have never tried acupuncture before, 95 to 100 percent come back, and about 75 percent get their own TCM doctor after leaving treatment. After launching the Chinese nutrition program, clients are leaving treatment leaner for the first time.

?Traditional Chinese Medicine is a complete health care system that can ultimately treat many ailments, from digestion and heartburn to various types of pain,? said Chambers. ?Rather than putting on a band-aid, TCM treats health problems where they originate.?

Asia Transpacific Journeys Announces New Itineraries Beginning May 2007 Along China’s Silk Road

BOULDER, CO (PRWEB) September 19, 2006

Asia Transpacific Journeys (ATJ) announces a new itinerary along China?s Silk Road, from the company that has delved into the heart and soul of one Asian destination after another for nearly 20 years.

?’China?s Silk Road: History?s Great Thoroughfare? exemplifies two decades of exploring Asia, of assembling shards and shadows of the past into a story trail that can help us explain how and why civilizations come and go,? says Marilyn Downing Staff, CEO.

Remote desert outposts, large cities and rustic villages, Uyghur, Kazak and Kyrgyz peoples, pastoral walks, multiple religious traditions, tombs and temples, markets and bazaars are part of the potpourri available for the first time through ATJ for small groups of up to 16 guests. Leading the trips will be two of ATJ?s team of professionals, which was recently recognized by Conde Nast Traveler as offering exceptional knowledge and service.

ATJ will conduct two departures in 2007 and two in 2008 along China?s Silk Road. The 14-day itineraries are May 6-19 and Sept. 9-22 2007 and May 4-17 and Sept. 7-20 2008.

The land cost of $ 5,195 per person (double) includes luxury accommodations in Beijing and Xi?an, Western China?s best available lodging, expert tour leadership, most meals including local beer, medical and evacuation insurance, and more. Internal air is approximately $ 900 and international air approximately $ 1,300. Single supplements are $ 800.

THE ITINERARY

This adventure begins in Beijing and ends in Shanghai. Internal flights transport guests to Urumqi (in Mongolian ?beautiful pastures?), the capital of Xinjiang, a huge western province home to lush pastures populated by herders and 13 distinct ethnic minorities. Guests sample Uyghur cuisine and overnight in Kazak yurts before flying to Kashgar, still intact from Marco Polo?s time, an intoxicating, marvelous confluence of Indian, Persian, Arabian and Chinese cultures layered one on top of the other. On another day the ruins of whole cities are underfoot as the trip skirts the southern edge of the Taklamakan Desert to Karghilik and Yarkand. A highlight is the Sunday Bazaar in Hotan, with bread and steaming nutmeg tea on offer as well as sheep, goats, horses and camels.

In Jiya the 2nd Century comes alive while watching the making of traditional tie-dye raw silk called atles. Dunhuang, one of the great points of convergence along the Silk Road is the next stop, where tree-lined streets are thoroughfares for Mongolian ponies and locals wear traditional dress. From here guests explore a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Mogao Caves, an incredible repository of Buddhist culture: thousands of artifacts are contained therein, including murals, carvings, paintings, embroidery, hand-written texts on Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, historic records, accounting books, letters and court records in Chinese, Tibetan, Sanskrit, Falu, Sute, Hetian and Huihe languages. Finally, a must see on the itinerary is an additional UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Terracotta Warriors in Xian.

TOUR LEADERS

Dr. Stephen Halkovic holds a Ph.D in Inner Asian Studies, specializing in Mongolia/Tibet/China, from Indiana University where he taught for 14 years. While teaching at IU, he led summer tours to Soviet Central Asia, Mongolia and China. Since the ?80s he has led 100 trips to China, over 50 to Mongolia, and more than 15 to Tibet.

Ari Bond, born and raised in Southeast Asia and educated in Europe, studied languages and geography. He has acquired native fluency in eight languages, and a working knowledge of many others, including several Asian languages. He has planned, managed and directed tours and expeditions for more than 30 years on all seven continents, including pioneering trips throughout Asia.

Asia Transpacific Journeys has been crafting private Custom Journeys and Small Group Trips to the Asia/Pacific region since 1987.

Says CEO Downing Staff: ?Our intimate, in-depth style promotes cross-cultural understanding, encourages environmental sustainability, and fulfills long-held personal dreams.? She notes that ATJ?S regional expertise also makes ATJ the operator of choice for dozens of America?s most demanding universities and museums.

For 2007 ATJ?s ever-expanding itineraries of 18 Small Group Trips and Custom Journeys encompasses 20 countries in North Asia, South Asia, SE Asia and the Pacific. Some trips also support global conservation and cultural preservation. ATJ?s own non-profit Asia Transpacific Foundation, established in 1998, works with rural Asian communities to provide clean drinking water through locally made ceramic water filters.

Fort Worth, Texas (PRWEB) October 15, 2011

The Phra Malai, one of the Orient?s most impressive pieces of literature, will just be part of many items up for sale and display at this weekend?s Eighth Annual Houston Vintage Book, Postcard and Paper Festival.

David Nutzman of StoneMonkey Books presents this 40-foot-long hand-painted manuscript that tells the story of Phra Malai. It is one of Buddhism?s deepest stories.

The festival, put on by DM Promotions in conjunction with the Texas Booksellers Association, takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Stafford Center, 10505 Cash Road, in Stafford. Admission is $ 3.50 per person and is good for both days. Children are allowed in free with a paid adult. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

?Each year, we seem to bring out better and better books and items for our returning friends or newcomers,? said Daniel Monsanto of DM Promotions. ?There just always is an energy surrounding our Houston festival and I?m expecting another great event this weekend.?

Houston is a city rich with history. Many books and postcards over the years have represented how the town has grown from simply a Downtown-centric focus to the Astrodome, Greenway Plaza, the Texas Medical Center, Loop 610 and Sam Houston Tollway. For longtime Houstonians, they will remember the Esperson Building at one time being the largest building of its type Downtown. How can anyone forget the Gulf Building with the big, rotating Gulf sign that greeted people either during the day or at night coming into Houston on Interstate 10?

Don?t forget about the historic Rice Hotel and all of the important individuals that have spent nights there. Of course, Houston is named for Sam Houston, one of Texas? greatest statesmen. Don?t be surprised if many items related to the city of Houston and its incredible growth show up at this weekend?s book, postcard and paper festival.

Book readers and collectors will have a plethora of choices, ranging from new, used and antiquarian books covering varied subjects like history, war, Texana, sewing, children?s interest, cooking, fiction and non-fiction areas of interest.

There are postcards featuring churches, modern chrome views of cities and rare hold-to-light ones.

Vintage paper products ranging from advertising, historical documents, autographs, paper currency, matchbooks, brochures, valentines, calendars, magazines, pin-ups, artist-signed prints and much, much more are waiting for your fingertips to touch and purchase.

One highlight of her collection is a delightful set of 1939 miniature books in a slipcase, ?Tom Thumb? and ?Thumbelina? with hand colored pictures. Dealer Bob Harper with Outdoor Visions specializes in rare big game hunting books with an emphasis on hunting in Africa, Asia and North America.

Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, a true classic in Buddhist studies, will now be offered in two volumes. Volume 1 is now available and is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in the life of the Buddha, the early history of Buddhism in India, and the transmission of Buddhism throughout Asia and Tibet.

We hope new readers will find something in these books to connect with whether a new or challenging idea, a photo, story or description that touches them, or simply the joy of learning and expanding their knowledge.

As always the proceeds from donations and the purchase of our book go to support the Yeshe De Text Preservation Project, which prints sacred texts distributed for free at the annual World Peace Ceremony on Bodh Gaya, India.? Says Rima Tamar of Dharma Publishing Bookstore.

Songs of Shabkar: The Path of a Tibetan Yogi Inspired by Nature

This book presents poems of Shabkar Tshogdruk Rangdrol (1781-1851). This great yogi and practitioner of both Nyingma and Sarma teachings was a master poet and skilled writer; he sang beautiful songs and authored many texts. Throughout Tibet he was renowned as an example of the finest meditator.

The songs were Shabkar?s particular way of teaching, reflecting his profound understanding and his way of life. The depth of meaning conveyed in each song is still accessible today: if we listen to the words and let them resonate within us, they will point directly to our own life and our own mind. His work allows us to explore the Dharma from the inside, glimpsing the way of life of a true practitioner. This is Shabkar?s precious gift to us today.

Dharma Publishing is pleased to have this opportunity to publish a collection of Shabkar?s songs. The poems are composed in a simple yet richly poetic style, with beauty and directness, often expressing delight in nature. Experts in Tibetology, lovers of poetry and spiritual seekers from any tradition will be uplifted by Shabkar?s rigorous honesty on the path toward self-understanding.

Holy Places of the Buddha: This installment of the Dharma Publishing?s Crystal Mirror series is a guide to the eight central places of Buddhist pilgrimage in India, based on rare traditional sources and unique traveler?s journals. Read about modern archeological research on the remaining artistic styles and monuments, always cognizant of the spiritual vision and stories from the Buddha?s life and the history of the Sangha. This book shows the major centers of Buddhism in ancient India as seen through the eyes of pilgrims in past and present: it describes the rediscovery of this ancient heritage and what travelers can see today. It opens our eyes to how valuable and vital the sacred sites still are; meaningful to the modern world. This recent edition has been updated with new full color photographs.

(Crystal Mirror Series, Volume IX)

Buddha, Dharma, Sangha; Roots of Transmission. a revision of a reference book which, since its first publication in 1984, has become a classic.
